Give restaurants a fighting chance.

About Rally for Restaurants

We all have a place. A spot. A special restaurant, cafe, bakery, or bar in our local neighborhood.

We have a favorite item on the menu, a server we recognize, or a dessert we love. And we spend money at these spots. Lots of it. In fact, the average American spends nearly $3,000 each year dining out.

But now our local restaurants are in trouble. The restaurant community is being rocked by a dramatic decline in sales and could quickly run short of cash to support day-to-day operations and staff wages. In many cities, restaurant sales are down as much as 80% as a result of COVID-19. That’s putting hard-working owners, operators, staff, delivery drivers, farmers, and just about everyone in the food industry at risk.

Restaurants operate on thin margins, and with social distancing and governments enforcing takeout only at local restaurants, this industry needs our support now more than ever.

That’s why, on behalf of restaurants across the country, we’re asking you to step up. Contribute what you can by ordering takeout and buying gift cards from your favorite restaurants so they can count on that income to keep things running.

Rally for Restaurants is a grassroots initiative to give restaurants a fighting chance amidst the COVID-19 health crisis. You’ll have wonderful meals to look forward to, and your purchases will support restaurants in managing their businesses through uncertain times and keeping their staff and customers safe.

Who’s involved

Rally for Restaurants is a grassroots initiative from restaurant technology providers, public and private companies, restaurant owners and workers, and people everywhere coming together to support the restaurant community in their time of need.

Toast, via its philanthropic arm Toast.org, will donate $1 per eligible social media post, up to a maximum of $250,000. Donations will be distributed evenly between the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation and World Central Kitchen.

The Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation (RWCF), an advocacy and action non-profit created by and for restaurant workers, has launched their RWCF COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. RWCF established the fund to support organizations providing relief for individual workers facing economic hardships or health crises as a direct result of COVID-19, organizations leading on-the-ground efforts for those affected, and to bolster their own impact investment budget to provide zero-interest loans to businesses to re-open once this crisis has passed.

World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a global NGO devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. They’ve served more than 12 million meals in locations all over the world, including Haiti, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Indonesia, Mozambique, Albania, Australia, and more. In response to COVID-19, WCK is actively working with partners to safely distribute fresh meals to students, seniors, and families across vulnerable communities. To learn more, please visit wck.org.
